About Woods and Gather
Meet Founder and Instructor: Randy Hampton
For Randy, woodworking has never been just about making things; it’s about learning, patience, and connection.
His journey began over 20 years ago in the shop of his great-grandfather, one of the most influential role models in his life. There, surrounded by the smell of sawdust and the quiet rhythm of hand tools, he learned the basics of working with wood, and, more importantly, the value of taking pride in his craft. Those early lessons planted the foundation for a lifelong passion.
Over the years, Randy deepened his skills one step at a time. He learned the way many dedicated woodworkers do: through hands-on experimentation, long hours in the shop, countless books, and self-paced coursework. Every new technique was earned, practiced, and refined. Woodworking became not just a skill, but a discipline; one built on curiosity, problem-solving, and respect for the material.
That dedication led Randy to launch Hampton Craft Woodworks in Dallas, Texas, where he ran a successful woodworking business. His work ranged from small home goods to custom furniture for homes and businesses, unique art installations, and heirloom pieces designed to be passed down for generations. Each project told a story and reflected his belief that well-made objects matter.
Eventually, Randy felt moved to share what he had learned. After relocating to Colorado Springs, he became a licensed woodworking educator, teaching youth how to safely and confidently work with tools while building real skills and confidence. Watching students discover what they were capable of building sparked a new vision.
That vision became Woods and Gather.
Woods and Gather exists to bring people together around craftsmanship, learning, and community. Whether you’re picking up tools for the first time or refining skills you’ve had for years, Randy believes woodworking should feel welcoming, empowering, and human. This is a place to slow down, learn with your hands, and build something meaningful together.
Welcome to the shop.
